Eastern Market Calls for New Vendors

Eastern Market is now accepting applications year-round from antique sellers, arts and crafts vendors, ethno-specific importers, and prepared food vendors for its Saturday and Sunday Markets.

Eastern Market is DC’s original and premier outdoor market. It is a vibrant,exciting, and profitable marketplace that is looking for enthusiastic artisans, importers, collectors, and food sellers who can contribute with unique and attractive products.

A non-refundable application fee applies to each application.

Do I need any other vending license to sell at Eastern Market – other than what you all ask for in the application?

No. We DO require that the application is 100% complete, however. Applications do not go to review committee unless they are totally complete (and we keep the processing fee because our staff processes every application we receive). So please send us a complete application!

 

What is the Sales and Use Certificate and how do I get one?

To apply for the sales and use certificate, you will need to fill out DC’s FR-500 tax form, which is available at
http://otr.cfo.dc.gov/page/new-business-registration.

You can choose to register electronically or by paper. Be sure to do this online. Don’t print it out and mail it in to Office of Tax and Revenue.

Once you have filled it out online, you can send us the confirmation page that they prepare for you. As long as you have this, you DO NOT have to send us the actual certificate, which can sometimes take a while until it is processed.

 

You will really like my work … should I send you all some pictures right now?

No, the best thing to do is to send them in in the packet! The application review process is run by a volunteer committee of Eastern Market vendors who will only see what is in the packet that you send in to us.

 

If I get in, how much does it cost to vend?

The daily rental fee is between $22 and $44 depending on the size an location of the space.

 

Is there a specific number of weekends (or Tuesdays for farmers) that you expect me to come out?

We expect prepared food sellers to come out every weekend that they are scheduled. For the other vendors (arts and crafts, ethno-specific, antique/vintage), we expect you to come out regularly (twice a month from March to December). We love it when vendors come out in January and February (and so do customers!) but we don’t require it.

 

If I applied in the past and didn’t get in, should I apply again?

The only condition we have is that you can only reapply after a six month waiting period.
