Jeff Jacobs

Jeff Jacobs

This is an old Eastern European craft Jeff Jacobs picked up in 1987 at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival on the Mall. Glenn Van Antwerp, a master fan-bird carver from Michigan, taught him the basics. It is a unique and fascinating process that yields a whole bird out of one continuous piece of wood. No glue or assembly. Since 2012 Jacob has developed and refined a style for the hummingbird and like to think he brings something unique to the craft. He usually can be found on Saturdays at Eastern Market where he both demonstrates the process and sells them. Jacob also is a carpenter/cabinet-maker/handy-man licensed in Virginia.
